Getting Crafty

So I have recently got really into sewing, just staring making little things like cushions and accessories as I'm not quite ready to make the jump into making clothes yet. I don't think I am quiet skilled enough or patient enough for that. I am really enjoying it though and think this could be a hobby that I could be really good at if I stick at it, which fingers crossed I will.

There are so many things I want to try to make Skirts, Shirts, Capri Trousers and Fitted Blazer's but I need to start small become a bit more skill full to start on projects like that. Thanks to some great books, blogs and websites I have been given some great ideas for things I want to try to make and some things I have started to make.

My recommendations:

Sew Over It (Book) -

I am in love with this book at the moment, the way its set out, written and is very simple to follow (which is great if your new to sewing). This book teaches you the easier things you can start to sew rather than jumping in at the deep end and sewing a skirt. The sections of this book are; customising clothes, altering clothes, making accessories and challenging yourself. As well as this Lisa gives you a great introduction about herself and how she got her business 'Sew Over It' up and running. Lisa also gives you a list of her favourite shops, so if your like me and Google everyone on the list to see if you like them too then you most defiantly will like them all. This is somewhere I will go out of my way to visit in London at some point as Sew Over It do loads of classes from introduction to sewing too dress making.

Sewing the 60's (Blog) -

This is a blog I've only recently discovered but I'm finding it very helpful for ideas and just to have a good look at what you can achieve once you've had more practice behind a sewing machine. The first place I go to once I've discovered a new blog/website is the tutorials/patterns page, that's where you will find if the website is good or not and this blog is good! Some of the tutorials go from the more simple 'measuring a button for a buttonhole' too your more complicated 'setting in sleeves', all these tutorials will be helpful to yourself at some point due in your sewing projects. This blog is definitely one to check out, even if it's just to see what fabulous clothes she's currently making.

Tip Junkie (Website) -

This is a great website as it doesn't just give you sewing tips, its for all different crafts from knitting too cooking. I have found some great little gift ideas that I want to try out from this website, mainly baby gifts as that was what I was looking for but there are seasonal gifts ideas on here as well wedding and house warming gifts. You could spend a while on this website just looking through all the different crafts, you never know you might end up taking up another hobby after looking on here.

My Projects:

£7 Headscarf

I will be making these to sell, at the moment I have only made it in this one fabric and design until people let me know they are interested in buying them I will then start to make more in different fabrics and designs. If you are interested in any of the products I am listing then let me know either via email; jade_bolton1@hotmail.com OR Instagram; jlbolt

Bow Tie -

£7 Bow Tie

This bow tie has already been sold but I will be making more in different fabrics and designs, I will be doing clip on kids ones too. If you are interested in a bow tie then please do get in contact, I can do them made to measure buttoned ones or clip on ones which ever you prefer. I will be doing them in men's designs as well as female and children's.

Tote Bag -

£12 Tote Bag

Sorry about the rubbish picture I couldn't take a decent photo of it, this is just a demo design as it was my first try. Tote bags will also be available in various fabrics and designs, you can always give me an idea of what kind of fabric you are looking for and if I am able to get hold of some then I will be happy to make it out of that for you but that will be more of a made to order process. This has interfacing inside to make the tote bag stronger and the handles are lined with the same thing.

Don't forget to get in contact with me for any orders or questions about the products I am making to sell.
