Soul all nighters & all dayers

I recently went to my first soul all nighter, the 100 club 34th anniversary. Having never been to one before I was worried about not being able to dance very well or not looking the part. But everyone there was so nice, like a massive soul family. I now have the Soul all nighter bug!
They always have great DJs who play rare soul. Some nights such as Crossfire have different rooms that play different music; Soul, R&B & Ska. All the best tunes played by the best DJs.
Once you go to your first one, you'll want to go to them all. Ways to find out where & when they are happening; is the 6Ts website, new untouchables website & Black Bee Soul Facebook. The best place to find out the most information is at an actual soul night/day, they give out loads of leaflets to different events.
Events to look out for; 100 Club anniversary, New Years (Va Va Voom), Kings Hall & Black Bee Soul.

New Untouchables Brighton Mod Weekender 2013

So last month I went to the Brighton Mod Weekender and to Brighton for the first time.
High lights of the weekend: Great DJs due in the evening events I went to, I mean I'm not a massive fan of Ska but that night I danced my ass off to it! Soul and R&B was blasting away for most of the night, so I was in my element.
Scooter rally on the Sunday; I was shocked with the amount of scooters that were there on the Sunday. Not just your generic Vespa's & Lamberetta's either, there were some great beasts of scooters there. The smell of 2stroke filled the air on that sunny sunday afternoon.

As I took my camera with me I was very happy with the amount of people who didn't mind getting their picture taken. Everyone their definitely looked the part, all suited and booted wither they were Mods or Skinheads. There was a great atmosphere surrounding the weekend, even on the Saturday when it was raining for most of the day. Brighton showed Quadrophenia on the beach Sunday evening, to get everyone ready for the last night of partying and dancing.

The only thing I would mention is if your planning on going next year, get tickets for Komedia venue. I went to Volks and it was very small, you could clearly tell it was the back up venue especially on the Sunday when Komedia's all nighter was on.

I wondered around Brighton due in the day after I had taken all the pictures I wanted to. Brighton as a place is nice (in the sun), there are plenty of places to go to eat, drink & shop. Great independent clothing and record shops.
I enjoyed my first Mod weekender & Brighton experience.

New Music & Old Music

I am unfortunately one of them people who finds it hard to find new bands that I actually like & can listen to more than twice! Which some people find annoying, they don't understand why I'm into 50s,60s & 70s music so much and dislike new music so much.
It's not that I dislike new music, if I found news bands I liked then it would be fine...it is very hard thought. So here I am talking about the few new bands I like.
After watching The Who a few Saturdays ago, who were of course amazing! But their support act were surprisingly GREAT, they were up beat & energetic. This band was of course Vintage Trouble, how do I explain this band...I would say they are old school RnB style music, the singers voice is a cross between James Brown & Otis Redding (a great combo). Their music is a heavy & up beat version of RnB, I recommend listening to them. You will want to purchase their album!!
Next up is my new favourite summer band with a great new summer album out, these aren't a new band but new enough to count them! They are Primal Scream & their new album More Light is a modern take on psychedelia. The lyrics, loops, back ground music & band are all on top form which makes this album as good as Screamadellic in my eyes. A must listen to, which will quickly turn into your favourite album this year!
Now for The Moons, this album if I remember correctly came out last year & when I first listened to it I became an instant fan. This band to me is a very British band, with a very mod style of music. Something that makes you feel happy and want to dance, the perfect driving album!
Last but not least, this isn't a band and it also focuses on the old music but oh my word considering I only discovered this through someone I follow on twitter a few days ago, this is has some great pod casts on it! Hush Club is the name of the website, based in Brighton and focuses on 50s/60s RnB, Rockin' Blues, Popcorn & Ska. I have to say their pod casts are amazingly put together, a lot of the songs I've never actually heard before which makes it all the better in my eyes! I love listening to compilations for example as that's the only way I discover artists I would never usually listen to an this is exactly the same thing. The Djs from Hush Club put together these pod casts so well, listening to them makes me want to dance around the room!

The best summer band - The Small Faces

My favourite summer band has to be The Small Faces! Every single song of theirs has that great, weird & wonderful comedy to it that makes them so easy to listen to when ever and where ever you are.
Their amazing album Ogdens Nutgone Flake is the perfect mix between comedy & perfection. The first half of the album seems pretty normal & well written until you get to 'Happiness Stan'. Masterly written with great comical stories within the songs, turns the album into one of the best from the 60s!
I don't think people give The Small Faces enough credit for their amazing talent!

Dedicated Follower Of Fashion

This Sunday I went to a local Vintage & Retro fair. There's only one vintage fair in my area that's worth going to and that's the one at KEGs (King Edward V1 Grammar School, Chelmsford).
You do have to pay for entry but it's worth it, it's not very big at the moment but it has a good 20 stalls to rummage through!
Mainly clothes stalls (which is what I go there for) but there are also furniture, homeward, Jewellery & Collectables.
I have uploaded my buys from this weekend, the top image is a peach knee length dress with white paisley pattern and the second is an original Ben Sherman.
I don't think either of these items are true to the 60s era but they are both something which you can pull off for being 60s, either way I love them!

The Kinks

The Kinks are probably the best band of the 60s but unfortunately the most under rated, when it comes to critics choice!
Join me in having a kinks day tomorrow (31/05/13), get all your Kinks vinyl & CDs at the ready :)
What's your favourite tune?
