Get the look.....Get Carter!

Get the look this week, sorry its a bit delayed! Is for all you ladies who wished your man looked like Michael Caine from the hit film Get Carter.
Get Carter is a British crime film set in London and follows a gangster character Jack Carter (Caine), to find out what happened to his brother Carter travels back to his home town. This violent crime thriller is one of Caine's most memorable rolls along with Alfie, Zulu, Gambit and Italian Job.

Every man wants to be him and every woman wants to be with him! Michael Caine was a massive fashion icon in the 60's and 70's its not hard to find him wearing amazing clothes in or out of films but I chose Get Carter for one of the less obvious choices.

Get the look....Get Carter!

Suit -

The first thing to look at when getting the 'Get Carter' look is, a suit preferably a blue suit as that's the most iconic outfit from the film. Dark blue suit, with a light blue shirt, dark blue tie and some amazing cuff links.

The iconic blue suit isn't difficult to find whether your looking for original or high street (next and moss bros), I found the one below on a website called tweed mans vintage. This suit is £79 for a 2 piece blue suit.

Cufflinks -

In the image above there is a great picture of Mr Caine holding a shot gun wearing some lovely cuff links. To get your self some cuff links like that you need to get some vintage ones, now I know I keep mentioning Watch the cloth moth but I just love their hand picked items.

Get the look....Breathless

As 'Get the look...' was such a big hit with you all, I have decided to do another one, this time with a less well known film but equally as stylish.
Breathless is a 1960s French film directed by Jean-Luc Godard, one of the most popular French nouvelle vague (new wave) film that was both visually attractive and had the use of new film technology.

About a young petty criminal who models him self on the film persona of Humphrey Bogart, so the fashion and coolness in this film is perfect for the 60s. There are many styles that run through out this film but an on going look is strips, on both Jean Seberg's iconic dress and shirt.

Focusing on two outfits the stripped dress as well as the stripped top with skirt, two completely different styles but with very similar looks.

Dress:

It's always hard to find an exact replica of a dress unless you get it tailor made to look the same, which is a good way to get the exact outfit you want but does cost more. This dress is from Rokit and is a 70s summer dress for £40, to make the dress look more fitted add a belt to it that way it will tuck everything in.

Top & Skirt combo:

If your like me and are finding it hard to hunt down a vintage stripy top then I would go and have a look in H&M as you will more than likely find one that's very similar and it will be cheaper.

As for the skirt I have found one that is what colour I can imagine her wearing it (as its a black & white image) and it will go fantastically with a white and red stripped top!

This skirt is from Beyond Retro for £20 http://www.beyondretro.com/en/women/skirts/midi-skirts/midi-skirt-rust-red-with-pleat-detail-e00131586.html

Please feel free to suggest a film you would like me to 'Get the look...' for, just leave a comment on this post and I will have a look at your ideas. Until next time...

British Music....making a come back!

So one of my favourite British bands, scratch that one of my favourite bands of all time has a new album out!! It's the best album out this year (so far), James La Petite Mort, for true fans of James this is their best album since Hey Ma. For all the people who are thinking 'James who?' or 'the band that sung Sit Down', then I don't think this post is going to be for you!

I have been listening to this album everyday since I bought it and I can't find anything bad to say about it. I will be sharing with you my top 10 James songs with you as well as my favourite track from the new album La Petite Mort. This was a hard task for me, I was originally going to pick my top 5 but there are too many songs I would like to share with you all, so I picked my top 10. I have added a nice combination of James' slower songs with their more up beat anthems, so enjoy!

1. Runaground

2. Getting away with it

3. Out to get you

4. Ring the bells

5. Johnny Yen

6. Waterfall

7. Stutter

8. Of Monsters and Heroes and Men

9. Quicken the dead

10. Lullaby

I apologise for some of the rubbish quality, I tried to keep most of them live but some were hard to find unless you want rubbish audience recordings so most of these are from TV.

I think everyone should see James at least once in their life, you won't be disappointed!!

Get the look!!

Sorry I have been away for so long, I have been a busy little Bee.
I do come to you with a new idea, which I know you all love. Get the look is a new entry where I help you 'Get the look' from the films I can imagine my readers loving as much as I do. So to get the ball rolling I am going to start with one that I'm sure most of you love but others will roll their eyes at...but here we go!

Get the look.....Quadrophenia.
I have a few Mod girls on Facebook who I know like Quadrophenia and some girls who are interested in the Mod scene but don't really know how to go about getting the look they are comfortable calling Mod. I'm not saying that I am a Mod but I am interested in the fashion so here I am helping myself as much as I am you, to 'Get the look' Quadrophenia style.

Toyah Wilcox's character Monkey mainly wears a jumper, skirt and coat combination through out the film. Her character does tend to wear dark colours, so when your looking for your combination try to think outside of the box a bit.

Coat/Jacket:

I am thinking out of the box with this jacket, a lot of Mods like to be noticed and with this you will be. This great pinkish PVC jacket is available on Watch The Cloth Moth Facebook page, I love their page as they are always updating it with some fantastic hand picked, high quality vintage items. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Watch-the-Cloth-Moth

Jumper:

Knit wear is an important part of a Mod's wardrobe, polo necks, long sleeves and short sleeves anything knitted always looks great with a skirt. This simple white knitted jumper is from Beyond Retro, if you want to stick to high street shops then you'll have to shop for this kind of knit wear in the right season. http://www.beyondretro.com/en/

Skirt:

I interviewed Rasha Swais recently and I am in love with their products, the quality and the colours are perfect. You can get items made to order, to what colour fabrics you want but I do think this skirt is a gorgeous colour but you might think it doesn't really go with this outfit...unless your a brave person. Your skirt doesn't always need to be a pencil skirt, remember the mini was around in the 60's, so mix it up a bit and change the length of your skirts. http://www.rashaswais.com/

So to 'Get the look' for Quadrophenia, keep it simple with your three piece outfit but add a splash of colour.

If you have any suggestions for the next 'Get the look....' please leave a comment below.
