Best British Frontmen

I'm a big fan of British bands and while watching a few live videos on youtube I was thinking to myself, who's my favourite British Frontman. Well putting these in order of favourite is going to be very hard but I am going to try my best, I'm sure I will change it multiple times before I publish the final one.
What do you look for in a Frontman?? Vocal? Sexiness? Fashion? Character?

1. David Bowie

Bowie is the king of personas, with every album is another character; Ziggy Star Dust, Thin White Duke, etc. David has everything a frontman needs, especially when through out most of his career no one was sure of his sexual orientation and therefore was desirable to both male and females.  With his great vocals, raw sexuality, fabulous fashion that was constantly being re invented  and fantastic on stage character with both the audience, his band and backing dancers.

2. Roger Daltrey

Frontman of The Who, his in my top five because he is one of the only Frontmen who convey someone else's songs with such perfection. Pete Townsend has always said that he could never sing his own songs the way Roger sings them for him, I think he is one of the most emotional singers out there. Though he may not always hit every note to perfection the pure emotion he puts into his performance makes up for that. Roger has the whole package and more with, great vocal, pure sexiness (I mean that body and its still pretty good today!), the tough boy fashion and a always smiling character.

3. Mick Jagger

Being the Frontman of The Rolling Stones needs a lot of energy and Mick Jagger certainly has that, with his Little Richard like stage performance and constant dancing makes for great watching. His vocal can sometimes be a bit off but that doesn't stop you enjoying the fantastic performance he gives, even now in his 70s his still has it! A lot women have fallen at his feet and after his film Performance I'm sure that was still the case maybe even more so, after seeing his more artistic side. After all these years, his fashion has been a bit up and down but most of the time his nailed it. Younger Jagger with the all in ones and his even younger self with jumpers and suits were probably his best fashion moments. Jagger comes across as a fabulous character both on and off the stage.

4. Robert Plant

The lungs of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant has the best vocal of all the Frontmen I've chosen with an incredible vocal range he can mesmerise you with just that. Being a Frontman and having great vocal isn't enough but luckily he ticks all the boxes, with all that hair, a constant open shirt and the tightest jeans ever seen, its almost like his having a who's sexier fight with Roger Daltrey! The Rock n Roll fashion is all there too and he comes across as a very generous and a bit of a quiet character, sometimes being sweet is better than being loud and in this case I think its true.

5. Freddie Mercury

I really nearly forgot to put Freddie into my list, I mean how could I have forgotten him!! With a fantastic vocal and maybe the more unusual of all the Frontmen, he still has everything you want. The perfect body (look at that picture) he looks like a ballerina, fashion for the time was good looking back at it now maybe not as good as some of the other Frontmen but we can let him off. His character was fantastic, Freddie owned the stage when he was on it, all eyes were on him.

6. John Lennon & Paul McCartney

Being part of a group where both of you sing and write as much as each other means that the band like The Beatles doesn't have one Frontman but two. John and Paul both bring great talent to the table and I think together they made The Beatles without each I don't think the band would have been anything like the band we know and love today. Both cheeky chaps with a great sense of humour, which makes their characters so attractive. With thousands of girls screaming their names and wetting themselves over their presents means that they had sexiness down as well, while to look at them you would say they were both attractive but maybe not sexy (I'm still going to include it). John and Paul in the early years had great fashion sense with their suits and jumpers combo and even as they got older they still had the hippy look down too.

7. Roger Waters & David Gilmore

Another double entry with Waters and Gilmore from Pink Floyd,  both have great vocal and writing talent sharing this kind of talent proves difficult for shared Frontmen like these and John and Paul. I would say Roger probably has the most attractiveness to fan's of the band and David is the more quiet one. Fashion wise they both wear casual clothes in later performances but at the beginning it was more of a hippy look which the whole band contributed to. Roger and David both share a lot of character and that's why most of the time sharing the lime light is difficult if you both have a lot of personality you tend to clash.

8. Morrissey

The lead singer of The Smiths has great stage presents, with a hint of colour and flowers always hanging around. His a superb writer all his songs are written perfectly (My favourite is Asleep), his character may sometimes come across as a bit stuck up and mean but I don't think his really like it might just be part of his showmanship. With great fashion style (considering its the 80s), a lovely voice almost like his reciting poetry.

9. Richard Ashcroft

The singer of The Verve and now a solo singer Richard Ashcroft has great vocal, as a big part of Brit Pop Richard has great fashion style always seems to be wearing a leather jacket and sun glasses. He was a pretty big pin up boy due in the 90s with his cute innocent look, he always comes across as a nice person not cocky like Liam Gallagher.

10. Tim Booth

Tim Booth is the Frontman for the band James, the confident singer has been part of James since the early 80s, what makes him the perfect Frontman for me is he does the most hypnotising dancing called tantric dance. This is where he looks like his having a fit but he says it gives him a better high than being on drugs, he also has a fabulous voice. I must admit I don't admire his fashion style, it could be improved but I guess that isn't everything as long as the voice and the stage persona is good that's all that matters.

These are my top 10 British Frontmen, I'm sure I've missed out loads of singers but unfortunately I cant fit them all into my top 10. This took me so long to finish so I hope you like it, leave your comments on who your favourite Frontman is.

Bond, James Bond

As there is always a James Bond film on TV, you can't really avoid watching them you end up seeing them all even if your not going out of your way to purposely watch them. I have a favourite Bond as I'm sure most of you do, which I judge by how good looking he was at the time he was playing Bond. So here's a list of Bonds in the order of looks (the ones that I think are better looking) and also the ones who dress the best. Even though every Bond dresses well, not every Bond can pull it off quite as well as others.

Sean Connery:

Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice & Diamonds Are Forever.

Pierce Brosnan:

Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, World Is Not Enough & Die Another Day.

Roger Moore:

Live And Let Die, Man With A Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonracker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To Kill.

Daniel Craig:

Skyfall, Casino Royale & Quantum Of Solace.

Timothy Dalton:

Living Daylights & Licence To Kill.

George Lazenby:

On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

To be James Bond you have to have style, a great suit, with a designer watch and an expensive car but that might just be because companies feel like they have to endorse James Bond films. Hope you all enjoy these fabulous pictures of Bond actors.

Getting Crafty

So I have recently got really into sewing, just staring making little things like cushions and accessories as I'm not quite ready to make the jump into making clothes yet. I don't think I am quiet skilled enough or patient enough for that. I am really enjoying it though and think this could be a hobby that I could be really good at if I stick at it, which fingers crossed I will.

There are so many things I want to try to make Skirts, Shirts, Capri Trousers and Fitted Blazer's but I need to start small become a bit more skill full to start on projects like that. Thanks to some great books, blogs and websites I have been given some great ideas for things I want to try to make and some things I have started to make.

My recommendations:

Sew Over It (Book) -

I am in love with this book at the moment, the way its set out, written and is very simple to follow (which is great if your new to sewing). This book teaches you the easier things you can start to sew rather than jumping in at the deep end and sewing a skirt. The sections of this book are; customising clothes, altering clothes, making accessories and challenging yourself. As well as this Lisa gives you a great introduction about herself and how she got her business 'Sew Over It' up and running. Lisa also gives you a list of her favourite shops, so if your like me and Google everyone on the list to see if you like them too then you most defiantly will like them all. This is somewhere I will go out of my way to visit in London at some point as Sew Over It do loads of classes from introduction to sewing too dress making.

Sewing the 60's (Blog) -

This is a blog I've only recently discovered but I'm finding it very helpful for ideas and just to have a good look at what you can achieve once you've had more practice behind a sewing machine. The first place I go to once I've discovered a new blog/website is the tutorials/patterns page, that's where you will find if the website is good or not and this blog is good! Some of the tutorials go from the more simple 'measuring a button for a buttonhole' too your more complicated 'setting in sleeves', all these tutorials will be helpful to yourself at some point due in your sewing projects. This blog is definitely one to check out, even if it's just to see what fabulous clothes she's currently making.

Tip Junkie (Website) -

This is a great website as it doesn't just give you sewing tips, its for all different crafts from knitting too cooking. I have found some great little gift ideas that I want to try out from this website, mainly baby gifts as that was what I was looking for but there are seasonal gifts ideas on here as well wedding and house warming gifts. You could spend a while on this website just looking through all the different crafts, you never know you might end up taking up another hobby after looking on here.

My Projects:

Head Scarf -

£7 Headscarf

I will be making these to sell, at the moment I have only made it in this one fabric and design until people let me know they are interested in buying them I will then start to make more in different fabrics and designs. Tote Bag -

£12 Tote Bag

Sorry about the rubbish picture I couldn't take a decent photo of it, this is just a demo design as it was my first try. Tote bags will also be available in various fabrics and designs, you can always give me an idea of what kind of fabric you are looking for and if I am able to get hold of some then I will be happy to make it out of that for you but that will be more of a made to order process. This has interfacing inside to make the tote bag stronger and the handles are lined with the same thing.

Don't forget to get in contact with me for any orders or questions about the products I am making to sell.

Interview - Emma Rosa Dias 'Afro Mic Productions'

I'm excited for you all to read this interview, sorry it's been so long since I've done one it took me a while to find someone who I really wanted to interview and as soon as Emma agreed to do so it was perfect! The creator of 'Faces In The Crowd' a documentary about Mods of today and the sole trader of Afro Mic Productions, the perfect person to admire and aspire to be Emma Rosa Dias.

Emma, would you class your self as a Mod or would you say your a lover of the Mod scene?
No, I am not a Mod and yes I am a lover of the Mod scene. I've been lucky with this journey as it has touched my life in a very endearing and positive way that it is here to stay.

I noticed your a producer at Afro Mic Productions, is this your own company?
Yes, I'm a sole trader under the name Afro-Mic Productions. I use different talented freelance film crew.

How did Afro Mic Productions come about?
I've worked in TV production for over 13 years now. Both in front of the camera and behind. For the last 6 years I was mostly producing TV ads. It was time to go out on my own and do the things I'm most passionate about. It's daunting and very hard work but I've made the right decision. The name came about because I have Afro hair and I'm often carrying a microphone, simple really!

I've previously interviewed Scarlett Baylis who I understand is in your Mod documentary Faces In The Crowd, What was the inspiration behind doing a film like this?
I witnessed different subcultures from childhood at the record shop my mum managed. Music and fashion was always a major influence growing up. I experienced my first Mod night (Afterglow) last year when I was asked to interview Eddie Piller for a Belfast City campaign. I was simply blown away by the atmosphere and camaraderie. It was that night I decided I was going to look further into the scene. First at home at the Bangor Weekender then Glasgow and London. This London film is a tad bit different because it's not all based at one event. It was shot over a longer period at many different locations.

What was your favourite thing about doing this film?
Meeting everyone, hearing their different stories and of course the music, dancing and fashion. It's a way of life.

Would you say Quadrophenia has massively influenced the scene?
Yes it has for some and equally not for others.

Do you have anything else in the pipe line film wise?
Yes if I sell enough DVDs, downloads and get some sponsorship! I hope to make 2/3 more 30 minute documentaries on the worldwide Mod scene. Europe or Japan could possibly be next.

What would be your advice to people who are looking to get into film production?
Just do it and be prepared to work very hard! If you are passionate enough about it, it will work. Make mistakes and learn from them. Listen to people with experience and sometimes that is not always the older ones. Young fresh creative talent are not scared of big ideas, I'm always learning!

I would just like to say a big thanks to Emma Rosa Dias for taking time to answer my questions for this interview. Hope you all enjoyed it!!
